How I apply my Rockabilly Eyeliner and Rockalily Lipstick

I get asked quite a lot about how I apply my make-up, so I thought I'd post about it again. Firstly, I am no make-up artist and make no claims about the quality of my application. However, I wear the same make-up every day, and love how it transforms my face. I hope that perhaps by showing my less-than-perfect make-up application I may give less-confident people to give rockabilly make-up a go!

So, this is a a tutorial for a classic rockabilly eye, almost bordering on an Amy Winehouse look I suppose. It is how I look 90% of the time, although the thickness of my eyeliner varies.

Here is my natural face this morning (I have already applied foundation and bronzer).

I start with using Mac LiquidLast just near the eyelashes. I work from the the outside to the middle, and then from the inner to the middle. I don't do one long line, but smaller strokes, which means you don't have to be so precise.

I then draw a flick up. You can see here it isn't very precise, and sometimes its shorter, or at a different angle.

I then draw a triangle shape into the middle of my eyeline.

I then fill the triangle space in.

I grew up blonde (who knows what my natural hair colour is now!) but it means my eyebrows are very light for my black hair. I think a big part of the classic rockabilly look is a heavy and shaped eye brow.

I have used a basic black eyeliner for my brow, and I have left one side naked, so you can see how heavy I wear it. As a final touch I add a nude powder, today I have used a Dior eyeshadow I have in a palette.

Here I am, with both sides done now, all ready for the finishing touch of red lipstick!

Today I'm wearing Rockalily Roulette Red, and I don't use a brush or a liner. I use the point of the lipstick to apply direct to my lip.

I start in the middle, in my cupid bow, and apply down.

Then I do the other side! (No photo editing on this photo)

I then apply on the bottom lip, and rub my two lips together. If I have gone over my lipline I just use my fingers to touch up, before I'm good to go!

Rockalily's First YouTube Review

I love sharing reviews of Rockalily Lipstick as they help make the process of buying a lipstick online a little less scary. Today Chyaz uploaded the first video review of Rockalily Lipstick, so I thought I'd share!

As with all of the bloggers who have reviewed Rockalily, they all purchased their own lipstick, meaning that none of them had any bias or commitment to review the lippy in any particular way.

The colour looks great on her!

Working at a Summer Camp: Rockin the USA

During my university years I worked in an American Summer Camp for two summers. I returned to the same camp twice, getting a substantial raise and promotion the second year.

I was a literacy teacher at a camp in New York State for disadvantaged girls from New York City. The two weeks they spent with us (we had three sessions over the summer period). The girls ranged from 8-16 years old, and many returned year after year, and some eventually becoming Teen Leaders and then counsellors once they were old enough.

The two summers I spent there were hard. Not because I was away from home, but because of the daily challenges we faced. The girls challenged us, the environment challenged us and the lifestyle challenged us. I counted myself as a tough cookie, but I was surprised at how tough it was at times. Yet I returned.

I would imagine that the experience could have been so different had I ended up in a different camp, but the camp I became part of was so worth while. It believed in giving girls an opportunity to see further than their inner city lives. One counsellor said that she had attended as a girl, and the camp had been the sole reason she never turned to drugs. Powerful stuff.

Did you try the USA camp experience? I was older than many members of staff (already into my twenties) but still felt it pushed me in ways I hadn't predicted.
