I blogged my top 5 tips to beat procrastination but hadn't completely got my head around why I sometimes put off getting things done.
I am currently reading a book called 'The Millionaire Dropout' by Vince Stanzione, and he had a chapter which lists the reasons we often give for not getting things done.
1. Lack of time
2. Feeling overwhelmed
3. Not wanting to do it
4. It's not due yet
5. I just can't concentrate
6. If I put it off, the task might go away
7. I work best under pressure
8 I need a cigarette or stiff drink first
9. It's too late to start today
10. It's too early
11. It might not work
12. I keep forgetting
13. I don't know how to do it
14. If I do it now, they'll just give me something else to do
15. I'll wait until...
What I found useful about this list is that if I'm putting off doing something, the way I kick myself into gear varies depending on the reason I'm putting it off. I would tackle many of the excuses in different ways, and having a list to go through seems somewhat helpful as a starting point.
