Twelve Wonderful Women: Frances Ridley Havergal

After buying a vintage book called Twelve Wonderful Women I have been giving summaries of each of the twelve women (I wasn't alone in being disappointed in how few I knew of!).

I discovered Elizabeth Fry, the lady on the back of our Five Pound note first, followed by Fanny Jane Crosby and Pandita Ramabai.

Frances Ridley Havergal

Frances Ridley Havergal was born in 1836 to a Christian family. Frances was a gifted musician and played the piano wonderfully.

She wrote poetry and hymns, and was lucky enough to travel a lot.

She is famous as a writer of many hymns.

This is my first slightly disappointing Wonderful Women, and this entry reminds me that the book was a Christian book, full of Christian inspiration. However, trying to find some inspiration regardless, she did apprently suffer ill health, but still achieved a lot, so perhaps I just need to search a little harder to find Frances a Wonderful Women nonetheless.
