I gave a lot of my clothes away last year. To get to that stage I'd read decluttering books and blogs, watched youtube videos on organisation and worked through my emotional attachment to "stuff".
It took months, but eventually I managed it. I sold some, donated some and gave some to friends.
Surprisingly I love it. The space to breathe, the ability to fit all of my clothing into my drawers and wardrobe, without being stuffed in and piled high on chairs. Having less choice each morning is somewhere freeing too.
I'd begun to feel somewhat suffocated with everything I owned, even though I liked most of what I had.
I'll never be fully minimalist, but there is much joy to be had from having a space for everything, and everything being in its place.
