Beauty Bloggers - Why We Fell In Love With Make-Up

I love how make-up can bond a group of women, and the power that putting your face on in the morning has. I wanted to explore our relationship with make-up a little more, and thought I should turn to the ladies who love make-up the most - Beauty Bloggers!

Tell us a bit about your history with make-up?

I began playing with my mother's makeup when I was a child and my older sister would make me dress up in the costumes we wore when we were dancers. She would hang a beach towel or a patterned blanket over a door to use as a background and I would pose like a model while she photographed pictures of me with bright red lips and lipstick-stained cheeks. I didn't actually begin wearing makeup until I was 11 or 12. I mostly used mascara, pressed powder, and clear lip gloss. Now, I collect makeup like a child collects toys!

Have you developed a staple look, or do you experiment a lot?

I really like to experiment but I find myself almost always going for a look that works to naturally enhance my features; such as neutral colored shadows, black mascara, some dark liner, a blush color that matches my cheeks when they're flushed, and a lip color in a shade deeper than my lips natural color. My favourite look is the one in which I wear winged black liner on my eyes, lots of black mascara, and a soft pink or red shade on my lips. I'm very inspired by old Hollywood glamour and bombshell starlets such as Marilyn Monroe, Sophia Loren, and Rita Hayworth.

Why do you love make up? What does it give you?

Makeup is a lot of fun as you transform yourself into an artist and use your face as a canvas while producing artwork mused by your imagination. It is a transforming experience that transports you to any level of beauty you may desire to achieve and that is one reason why I absolutely love it! It empowers me to let my confidence out freely, but don't let it become a disabling crutch if I so choose to go without it.

What made you start a beauty blog? Why do you continue writing one?

I've always loved writing and beauty, so starting a beauty blog was a no-brainer, but I guess the real reason was because I noticed how friends would often ask me questions on certain topics that affect women, including questions pertaining to beauty. I've also loved beauty and skin care so much that I became a Beauty Consultant at the age of 18 and now I'm using my knowledge to share it with others throughout the world. Maintaining my blog, J'adore La Dolce Vita, is really something I am passionate about!
