When people hear 'burlesque' they tend to think of the more traditional style - a beautiful woman stripping a corset off to reveal nipple tassles, perhaps with a feather fan thrown in. Don't get me wrong, I adore this style of vintage glamour burlesque (see here) but I also love the other sides of burlesque; perhaps the sides that many people don't realise exist.
If we look to Wikipedia (hardly the most reliable of sources but still...) it tells us that burlesque is 'a humorous theatrical entertainment involving parody and sometimes grotesque exaggeration.'.
